Independent Party supports Firmin
The Independent Party of Oregon represents more than 138,000 registered voters. Our members are committed to good government and combatting extremism at every turn. This has greatly impacted our endorsements and cross-nominations in 2022, as extremist positions of election denial, insurrection and arguing with science are baseline issues for us.
After years of supporting a roughly equal number of Republicans and Democrats in the general election, this year the IPO has given its "stamp of approval" to just five Republicans.
One of those is Alistair Firmin, candidate for House District 38. In our deliberations, we found Alistair to be thoughtful and committed to political moderation. A small business leader, married with two kids in Lake Oswego public schools, he might even seem to embody the Republican values of a "lost era," including a commitment to fiscal sanity, environmental conservation and sensible positions around such touchy topics as abortion and gun safety.
No state can benefit from long-term one party rule, but without a sensible opposition party, there are few choices for voters of conscience. Luckily, for the residents of House District 38, there is precisely such a choice. Alistair Firmin deserves your vote — and full support — this November.
